Project History

Anita Gonzalez and Richard Aellen have been developing the book about a time traveling Afro-Caribbean woman for about five years. We have had readings, workshops and residencies at NY Live Arts (2011) Dixon Place (2011), The Working Theatre (2012), Rhythmcolor Associates (2015) and most recently at the University of Michigan (2015). Each of these residences were useful in developing the story. We completed our first concert reading of the musical, with song excerpts created by composer Errollyn Wallen, in January 2016. Under the direction of Tamilla Woodard, we were able to assemble a cast of 11 singer/actors to hear the book with 7 new songs at The Cell on 23rd Street.
